ANALYSIS AND SYNTHESIS IN
BIODIVERSITY LAB
The Analysis and Synthesis in Biodiversity Lab is located in Botany Department of Universidade Federal do Parana, Curitiba/Brazil. We aim to understand spatial and temporal patterns in biodiversity and the ecological mechanisms explaining them. Different from the traditional, our Lab welcome researches on multiple biological groups, and with multiple approaches, from microcosms experiments to macroecological studies; from evidence-based to meta-analysis studies.
Several research projects are being made in LASB, most of them associated with the research projects of undergraduate and graduate students. See also our YouTube for videos of research. All projects are linked to at least one of the following lines of research of LASB:
i) Spatial and temporal patterns in biodiversity and ecological processes
ii) Ecology of inland aquatic organisms
iii) Ecology and management of non-native species
Albeit the variety of research carried out in LASB, two major projects deserve further description, given they comprise most current research. See details of them below.
We also engage on communication our research outside university. The project entitled ''Aquatic Ecology for All: Science Popularization in Schools and Technical Support for Decision-Makers in River Basin Committees". This project aims to bring technical and scientific knowledge of Aquatic Ecology closer to two strategic audiences: elementary and secondary school students, and decision-makers in river basin committees. Through interactive workshops in schools, hands-on activities with biological material, and science communication initiatives, the project seeks to foster interest in the conservation of aquatic ecosystems. At the same time, it intends to work with public managers, council members, and community leaders by providing syntheses of scientific evidence and spaces for dialogue on relevant issues for water management. The proposal integrates teaching, research, and outreach, promoting engaged, critical, and accessible science.
