Current Researchers
ANDRÉ ANDRIAN PADIAL
Lead Researcher
Dr. Andre Andrian Padial is a full professor at ‘Departamento de Botânica’ (Botany Department) in ‘Universidade Federal do Paraná’, Curitiba, Brazil. He graduated with a strong bias to aquatic ecology, particularly macrophyte ecology. However, during his PhD in ‘Universidade Federal de Goiás’, A.A.P. recognized the importance of addressing ecological questions with different approaches and biological groups. Therefore, his publications range from very local limnological studies to macroecological research on multiple biological groups. His main interest is to explain beta diversity, in face of the overwhelming biotic homogenization observed worldwide as a consequence of human-mediated biological invasions; and metacommunity approach is the most common background. A.A.P. is currently a fellow of the most important agency for research in Brazil (‘Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa Científica’). Fan of football (Flamengo!), craft beers, wine, and coffee.
ELENA FUKASAWA GALVANESE
Postdoc in Botany
Elena Fukasawa Galvanese aims to understand the determinants of biodiversity and co-existence, focusing micro-algae and relating to ecophysiological processes. She is now interested in learning how an invasive aquatic grass affect the ecosystem of the Guaraguaçu River.
LUIZ GUILHERME DOS SANTOS RIBAS
Pos-doc in Ecology and Conservation
Luiz Guilherme focus on impact evaluation. In this pos-doc, he will evaluate the impact of mass-development invasive macrophytes removals on aquatic ecosystems. For that, he will perform a meta-analysis using data from MadMacs project.
LETICIA SIMAN BORA
PhD student in Ecology and Conservation
Leticia Siman Bora is a biologist and has a master’s degree in Continental Aquatic Environments. She is currently a PhD student at UFPR, in the Ecology and Conservation program, and her interests involve the biodiversity of freshwater ecosystems and macrophytes communities. Her research at the moment is about the physiology and growth strategies of an invasive Poacea, Urochloa arrecta, a macrophyte that has the potential to decrease the biodiversity of aquatic water bodies.
FERNANDA DITTMAR CARDOSO
PhD candidate in Botany
Fernanda Dittmar Cardoso is a PhD student in the Botany Program (UFPR). Her research focus on the responses of aquatic macrophytes over an anthropic gradient. For that, she will evaluate the taxonomic and functiona responses, as well as the metal contaminants in aquatic ecosystems of Florianópolis municipality, Santa Catarina State.
LUCAS ANDRADE RODRIGUES
Master's student in Ecology and Conservation
Lucas Andrade Rodrigues is graduated in Biological Sciences in Universidade Estadual Vale do Acaraú-UVA (Ceará, Northeast Brazil). He did phycological studies in semiarid freshwaters in Northeast Brazil, particularly using Desmids. Curretly he is enrolled at the Masters course in Ecology and Conservation at Universidade Federal do Paraná-UFPR (Paraná, South Brazil). The current researches still involve microalgae, but now all phytoplankton groups in the Guaraguaçu River, as well as their interaction with macrophytes. The main goal is to describe functional groups of phyto and relate them with the presence of an invasive aquatic grass along the ecological gradient of the river. He enjoys music, movies, TV series, card and board games with friends.
LUDDY SEAROM CARIAS DE MORAES
Undergrad student in Biological Sciences
Luddy Searom Carias de Moraes is an undergrad student of Biological Sciences at UFPR. He has always been interested in ecology and, more recently, in his academic career, he became interested in host-parasite interactions, an area in which he began to engage. He does a Scientific Initiation work, under the guidance of Professor André Padial, together with the postgraduate students in Ecology and Conservation Ana Paula and Gabriela Valentim, on description and biotic and abiotic factors that influence the parasitefauna found in the ichthyofauna of the Guaraguaçu River. He loves nature and easily lost himself in his thoughts. While autistic, his hyper-focus comprise on everything that is related to the biological basis of human sexuality.
HENRIQUE SHINJI TAKII
Undergrad student in Biological Sciences
Henrique Shinki Takii started his scientific carrer recently, through the scientific initiation program. His project relats to the effect of the invasive tropical tanner grass Urochloa arrecta in the plankton diversity of Guaraguaçu River. For that, he receives an scholarship linked to MadMacs project.
DENISE MATIAS DE FARIA
Postdoc in Ecology and Conservation
André A. Padial).
